Sales of Mobile Revision Aids Increase as Exam Period Beckons
As exam periods approach, Liverpool based software developers MKE Computing Ltd are seeing big increases in sales of their GCSE and A-Level revision aids.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and even iPad the apps give students a thorough test of their knowledge using comprehensive questions covering the whole of the Science syllabus. After answering a random selection of questions the student is given an approximate grade and percentage. The app also gives the student a breakdown of what topics they had issues with which can help them decide what areas to focus their studies on.
John McKerrell, Managing Director of MKE Computing, explains:
"We've always seen interesting trends in our sales. We launched the apps at the beginning of the year and were surprised to see that our sales increased when the snowy weather kept students at home. Over Easter sales were initially level but increased as the holiday went on and students started preparing for the return to school.
"Now that the summer exam period is imminent our apps have had a real boost and we're again seeing interesting trends develop. Sunday is turning out to be the most popular day for studying, with sales doubling from our current daily average. Mid-week we're also finding sales increase but over Friday and Saturday there's a definite dip, perhaps as students take time out to relax after the busy week.
A total of 12 GCSE apps are available covering the Core, Additional and Further levels of combined science, Physics, Biology and Chemistry. The latter are most useful for students studying separate sciences, or who want to focus their studies on specific subjects. A further 10 apps are also available for AS and A-level studies with an expanding range of subjects. Unique functionality is also available including Facebook integration and further information to help students plan their studies.
"I'm really excited about the progress that weʼre making with the apps and with the potential for the future. Currently studentsʼ use of mobile phones and portable music players is seen as intrusive and potentially damaging to their education. I'm glad that we can change this somewhat by making mobile devices actually useful for students and help them to improve their education," said a Bristol teacher that has been involved with creating the apps.
